The Base of the Pyramid refers to the poorest of the poor in developing countries or those that live in rural villages or urban slums. For d.light, its success hinges on the partnerships it forges with organizations that serve their customers, such as the Renewable Energy Enterprises Foundation in the Philippines, Buen Power in Peru and Solar Sister in East Africa. Out of the 2.3 billion people in the world who suffer from energy poverty with no access to reliable electricity, the socially-minded company has a goal of empowering 50 million people by 2015 and 100 million by 2020.
